M/M stories in LGBTQIA+ literature are frequently classified into specific categories. There are the classic coming-of-age tales and stories of self-discovery that involve characters bravely facing the odds. And let’s not discuss the steamy novels that have a special place in our Kindle bookshelves.
But today, I want to introduce you to something different, something that goes beyond these well-trodden paths.
My goal as a writer is to offer a fresh perspective on M/M stories.
I believe in creating characters who are independent and capable and, when they come together, create something truly cataclysmic. The relationship doesn’t exist because the plot dictates it. They don’t fall in love because they’re the only gay characters in the story, and certainly not because a clumsy shy-boy stumbled onto a dominant partner (over and over again).
What drives me as a writer is the importance of representation. LGBTQIA+ stories deserve to break free from these narrow narrative tropes. While coming to terms with one’s sexuality, exploring intimate relationships, and finding one’s place in society are undoubtedly important themes, they are not the only aspects of LGBTQIA+ lives. We are a diverse community with diverse experiences, and our stories should reflect that diversity.
My mission is to craft stories that encompass all walks of life within the LGBTQIA+ spectrum.
I aim to create narratives where a character’s sexuality is secondary to the plot.
This, in turn, is secondary to the broader themes and messages conveyed.
In essence, my message is simple: love is love. It’s high time that our literature reflects this truth. While stories about the challenges and joys of LGBTQIA+ relationships are undeniably important, it’s equally important to portray LGBTQIA+ characters in narratives that showcase their multifaceted lives.
So, if you’ve ever wondered why there are no gay action heroes out there, then my stories are for you! If you’re looking for a prince who finds his match in someone who isn’t helpless, then stick around! You’re going to like it here. My men are forces of nature; deadly in a magnitude of ways and their relationships sizzle. Not because they’re characters in a work of M/M and LGBTQIA+ literature,
but because they’re characters in a world who just happen to be gay.
As we embark on this journey together, I invite you to discover the characters I have created who defy stereotypes. Their love is not defined by labels, and the narratives transcend the boundaries of traditional M/M storytelling. Let’s celebrate the diversity within the LGBTQIA+ community and the universal truth that love knows no bounds. It is high time we see this reflected in the literature we read and cherish.
And so to begin, I’d like to introduce to you C’aiská and Jáhken, the soul-bound lovers and magnetic leads from my debut novella, The Wind Will Guide Us.
